This is one thing QF do well is linking pax on separate bookings to ensure contiguous seating allocation.
Last time I had to do this was on a PER-SYD return back in February, and a simple phone call to QF QP corporate customer service, gave them the booking references for both pax, and it was done. Both of us checked in online, and the pre-allocated seats were next to each other as expected.
