I'm thinking of staying here over the Christmas holidays for 1 night and although I have read elsewhere that some have said that the Spittlemarkt U-Bahn is only 50 meters from the hotel, Google maps seems to indicate that there is no direct way to walk to the stop, rather, it is a round-about 10 min walk of about 0.8 km. Is this correct and are there any other mass transit options such as the S-bahn, and what is the difference between the 2, S Bahn vs. U Bahn?
Also, anyone stay here a little more recently than '06? How is the general condition of the hotel now?
I stayed at that property in November 2008. The hotel was in good condition and the staff was great. The Spittelmarkt U-Bahn station is about a 5 minute walk away. It's a little tricky getting there the first time because it can't be seen from the station exit.
There's a small bratwurst stand and a few shops right outside the exit. Depending on the day and time you arrive, you can get help finding the hotel.
U-Bahn is underground, like a subway or metro. S-Bahn is at ground level, like a rail system.
