I will be going (with my wife and my daughter) on a personal vacation to somewhere in Europe during the first week in Jan. I have not decided where I am going - but I would like fly from YOW or YYZ or YUL to one of LHR or ZRH or FRA or Paris.

I am a SE, my wife and daughter are both Es.

we are thinking of going on Jan 1, and return 5 or 6 days later.

I would presume that we should have no upgrade problems on any route on Jan 1; if we come back on Jan 6 (or perhaps Jan 7), we should not have too much trouble upgrading.

Of course, being a veteran participant of this bulletin board, I can probably answer the question - probably going or coming on a Wed or a Sat are the easiest days to upgrade (and holidays, like Xmas and New Year's Day). The easiest routes to upgrade must be YOW-LHR or YUL-LHR?

Of course, I will use KVS and expertflyer.com to monitor "R" class availability.

PS-It costs marginally more to buy a discounted business class ticket on CO (leaving EWR to LHR on Jan 1), than it does to buy a tango plus ticket on AC with the departure being YOW or YYZ or YUL.
IMO it is easier to u/g from YYZ-LHR since they have so many flights. Also, if you book on a 777 your chances of all 3 getting the u/g is better as those have 42 seats as opposed to the 763 with 25. You cannot upgrade the rest of your family at the 7 day window but one of them will get it at the 4 day window as an E. Of course you could buy latitude and u/g immediately
