On balance, I prefer the bus, because it's a straight shot, and if you have even the most modest luggage, riding NJ Transit at rush hour is an unbelievable maggilah.
The other thing I'm not crazy about, is that the NJ Transit trains that arrive from EWR Airport almost always stop at Tracks 1-4, where there is no escalator or elevator. If your bags are heavy or cumbersome, it's no fun, especially if you're lugging your bag up the steps with a sea of busy commuters attempting to push their way around you...
The NJT trains typically use track 1-14. There typically 2 up escalators running. They are located near the ends of the platform plus there are elevators towards the 7th ave end of tracks 1-8. When boarding at EWR, never get on the train at the bottom of the escalators. You have up to 12 cars (1000 ft) to chose from yet all the EWR passengers with luggage try to pile in one door.
