I am planning a trip to the Big Island in early September and am trying to determine whether to use points or pay at the Outrigger Marriott. I have just talked to the reservation people there and was told the following: (1) based on availability, platinum members may receive an upgraded room; (2) whether on a paid stay or a reward stay, breakfast will not be comped (however there is a rate available that includes breakfast and/or rental car); (3) there is a good bit of natural area between the water and the hotel so an ocean front or ocean view isn't that big of a deal. I did learn in my conversation that Outrigger has another property, although not affiliated with Marriott, about 30 minutes away, also directly on the ocean. Rates there run about 40 percent less. Pretty good information is available at the Ohani Hotels web site. My impression is that amenities at the "Marriott Outrigger" is less that what you would expect at other resort Marriotts.
