I suppose I'm more of a prude than I thought...and as a mid-20's agnostic male, I don't really fit the prude stereotype (other than being American, I suppose).

BTW, for the slogan posted by Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu, are you sure it's not just a poor translation or perhaps a reference to the bar being on 12th floor?
In the four months I lived at the Hyatt Manila, I wasn't approached by a single prostitute inside the hotel (though another guest on the same floor once asked if I was looking for a woman). Did I see them meeting guests or in the regency club? Sure. But, unlike at the Sheraton Dhaka and Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu I didn't have them grabbing at me enough to render the bar or other public areas of the hotel useless. (Amazingly, the main bar at the Hyatt Manila was largely free of prostitutes.) It's not really the issue of whether they exist or are in the hotel, it's whether their presence is so overwhelming that they make public spaces in the hotel unpleasant for guests not interested in hiring a whore. I've spent a lot of time in developing countries. I'm used to dealing with touts all the time. I don't particularly like having to deal with them *inside* my hotel.

As for Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu, the ad is actually on the hotel's webpage (and facebook page, and elevators, etc.):

The only thing that’s high at Rumba is YOU! coz drinks are going at crazy, bargain prices all night long!...Drink responsibly. Don’t spill any.
It's not horrible, but it's also not something someone like MADD would react favorably to.

As for Le Meriden Jakarta's prostitution reputation, see:

(Slyguide also described it as a place to go for that sort of thing, but their site is now down.)
