Trip looks like it may be a prime candidate for the "Trick it/negotiate it..." etc. (fuel dump) thread in the Mileage Run Discussion forum. But you're looking remedially. Reason for suggesting it here is that one path could be to try the fuel dump, and if successful, execute a new PNR, then dispute and dump the present PNR with the help of the credit card company.
