EWR is as much of a premier international gateway as ORD, IAD, SFO, and certainly ATL. Just because it exists in the same metropolitan area as one of the 'great' airports of the world doesn't mean it's a second-rate facility in any measurable.
No offense, but the only one with a bias is someone claiming that EWR is the equal of JFK. It isn't. I'm not saying it is a second-rate facility (though it won't win any prizes), I'm just saying that it is not the equal of JFK in terms of prestige or traffic. I don't really care why this is, frankly. EWR is to JFK as LGW is to LHR. It is simply perceived as the lesser of two airports in a major city.
