I find if you are flying to a Southwest city, MHT is usually cheaper than BOS.

In the OP's example to Montana... no competition means higher fares out of the secondary airport... so in my experience BOS will be cheaper if you are flying to a non Southwest city, otherwise go to MHT.

My data set is for BOS or MHT to PHX or PHL
