If air ticket prices are roughly equivalent, I also vote for HKG as Plan A. Plenty of options to get to Shenzhen from there and much less painful than transferring in PEK or PVG. A possible Plan B to choose over PEK or PVG is CAN (Guangzhou), which is not too far from Shenzhen.
