points.com is the only "someone". One does not swap with another user at points.com. There is no "try" either.

Anyway.... Delta has no way to move SkyMiles OUT of your account to other programs. You can only transfer miles to another SkyMiles member. Medallions can use miles as a form of currency for shopping but that service, Medallion Marketplace (MMP), was pulled down about 2 months ago and is supposed to start back up again sometime in November (IIRC). There were some options at MMP to get gift cards that could be used for car rentals or hotels. That was the closest Delta ever got to allowing conversions from SkyMiles to other programs.... and that's not very close at all.

If you don't want to use them yourself think about using them on a family member or friend. Don't transfer them if possible. The fee is too high. You might consider giving a friend or family member a holiday "coupon". Simply print on a card "Good for 1 free domestic R/T ticket on Delta! Merry Kwansikkahmas". You can redeem your miles for a ticket for someone else. Just make sure the recipient knows of the restrictions.
