FWIW, I never did call Marriott to see whether I could get a Gold comp because of 2002 $$$ spent. However, much to my surprise, I got a 2003 Gold kit in the mail today.

The letter said something to the effect of "Because of your Marriott Signature Visa cardmembership, you have achieved Gold Elite status for 2003..." Thought that was a little wierd. Don't know if it was because of the amount spent on the card, or if they handed out comps to everybody this year.

I had 9 nights in 2002 at non-Priceline rates, but spent quite a bit on events/catering.
