I have a flight from BWI-MIA-RSW and there has been a schedule change in BWI from 2:40 to 3:20p. I know that when that happens I can exercise the above said rule and opt for a more convenient timing or flights. Even with the changed time I still have 4 hours in Miami.
I wanted to change from BWI to DCA, cause its way closer to me, but AA CSR said the rule is at least 1 hour for a airport change. Have I been swindled, or do I have the right to change the airport or timing?
The old DOT 240 rule is long gone. Each airline has it's own voluntary rules for IROPS and schedule changes. They may call them 240 but they are not the old DOT 240 rule. Usually a change of less then one hour does not get refunds or changes for free unless it involves a missed connection.
BUT, call back and get a different agent and ask politely. You make get a freebie.
