Just received it in the mail, wonder if I use it, will both me and my companion still be able to earn EQM and the bonus miles for the flight? What about our chances for upgrade? I'm gold with Delta, she just made silver.

P.S: Since the cert is only good for the contiguous 48 states, can anybody recommend the best use of the cert? I'm based in NYC.
