Combining 2 separate tickets into 1 'itinerary'

Folks - apologies if this has been addressed before but I tried all the various search techniques and couldnt find my answer so giving it another shot here....

I can find a great IAD - DXB ticket for Dec travel that goes via Europe. From Europe onwards to DXB, the flight is on Emirates. Same pattern on the return.

Problem is I actually want to go to KHI (Karachi) via DXB. If I buy a separate DXB-KHI-DXB ticket and combine with the above one, the savings are almost $500 compared to a direct IAD - KHI - IAD flight. Incidentally the IAD - KHI - IAD flights are the same as my original option of 2 seprate tickets.

So the question is... can I use a travel agent to combine these 2 separate tickets into one single itinerary. We ofcourse want to avoid baggage issues in DXB airport but would rather have everything tagged all the way through to KHI...

Help appreciated. Thanks!
