delayed and then pushed back early so i missed my flight

this is probably old news to everyone here but last thursday i had to fly up to SF from LA. My flight was supposed to leave at 8:50am so I got into my car at 8:00 when the phone rang. It was Southwest calling me to tell me that my flight is delayed until 9:40am.

My co-worker got the same call so we both spoke to each other and decided to meet at the gate at 9:10 instead of 8:20.

I was driving to the airport at 8:50 when I got another call saying that the departure time is changed again and it's 9:00am now.

By the time I got to the airport and got to my gate, it was 9:05 and I missed my flight. My co-worker did the same thing.

The next flight to SF wasn't until around 11:00 or so. We were both really annoyed since we could have arrived on time but due to the call we didn't.

Luckily there was an Oakland flight that was supposed to leave at 9am but got delayed to 9:20 and there were seats available so we took that flight up instead. If we had missed that flight, there was a 10am flight to Oakland but that was cancelled so we would have had to wait until 11am.

We were also lucky to get on the flight. There were plenty of seats but since they cancelled the 10am, they were booking all of them on this flight, etc. It could have easily gotten messy.

Perhaps it's just me but if Southwest delays a flight, then the delayed time should be the new earlier time for that flight. Yes, I know that sometimes this can cause a delay to be longer than necessary if the problem isn't as big as it was originally thought but it's a real pain for guys like me who plan my time accordingly.

Anyway, this is the first time WN really annoyed me. Last night when I flew back home, it was a little annoying because my 8pm flight was full and the 7pm flight was not so I asked to switch over to 7pm but as expected they said no. I even explained that since 8pm was full there is a chance that they would have to ask for volunteers and give up travel vouchers, etc. but it didn't work. This argument actually has worked for me a few times in the past but no such luck this time. Oh well, that's ok though.
