I totally disagree with regards to the Manor Club, Ford's Colony location.
It is a vacation club (timeshare facility) -- its not a hotel and its not supposed to have a restaurant --- so if full service is what you want I would not go there though they do have a general store, pools (though small) and exercise room. However, it is located within a beautiful golf club community (Ford's Colony -- with 3 golf courses and multi-million dollar homes) which has a club house within walking distance and they have a fantastic restaurant that beats any located in a standard Marriott hotel.
I'm not sure about the problems with the freezing room -- I wouldn't argue against the way you were treated. Though your $90 room rate is very cheap for a 1 bedroom unit, when the 2 bedroom units typically go for $275-375 a night when they do offer them to non-owners. If I was on a business trip I would not stay there, but if I was on a family vacation, it is a great location. Also your Platinum status (and mine) are not recognized by vacation clubs --- read your member rewards guide.
It seems from your and foodguys posts that you were looking for hotel like amenities, which Manor Club does not pretend to have. It is a timeshare facility where most suites are 2 bedroom units (around 1400 sq feet) with full kitchens (they sort of expect you would want to make your own coffee). People typically stock up on food at the local supermarket and leverage the kitchen during their stay (though again Ford's Colony has a great restaurant within walking distance). They do have an onsite general store that has more of a selection than a Marriott hotel gift shop (its more like a small 7-11).
Paradocs --- I strongly suggest you do visit Manor Club if you are coming with kids for a vacation (especially if you like golf). The facility is beautiful. You are within a short drive of all of the Williamsburg attractions (Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, etc.). The rooms all have VCRs so the kids can watch their own tapes at night, each unit has its own screen-in deck with views of the golf course grounds (for most rooms), washer/dryer units, full size dining room table and you certainly don't feel like you're stuck in a small hotel room.
Its all in the expectations folks --- clearly when you talk of this facility as being a "hotel", you have the wrong impression.
