It really depends what you're looking for. Unless you have elite status or are going to pay for a business class seat I'd go with Virgin America or JetBlue. I've flown JetBlue a few times from Long Beach to New York and they are far better than American or United in coach. Live TV, free snacks, generally better flight crew, and a free checked bag (I think JetBlue still lets you check one bag for free). AA has wifi on the 762's they run between LAX-JFK but there's no live TV or free snacks, and JetBlue's aircraft is much comfortable in coach then the old 762's AA is using. I generally end up flying American for the miles and to keep my elite status with them but would otherwise fly JetBlue. In coach there's really no comparison, Jet Blue wins hands down. I haven't flown Virgin America but I've heard good things about them as well.
