Hmmm, interesting. If UA does start ORD-FCO, that will give them as many destinations in Europe from ORD as AA. Both AA and UA will serve LHR, BRU, CDG, FRA, and FCO. AA will serve MAN and DUB while UA will serve MUC and AMS.

True, but the difference is that UA and AA compete directly at ORD, and traditionally, AA has been stronger to Europe, while United has been stronger to Asia. If UA did surpass AA at ORD, that would be very good for UA and very bad for AA.
