According to the agents here at LHR (through a phone call since they didn’t know the answer) .....

I would have been VERY surprised if the folks in BA's lounges or AA's Admirals Clubs could answer obscure questions on baggage allowances with any authority. IMO it's a very positive sign that they called rather than offer you what they think the right answer might be.
