I plan to give a trip report sometime soon, as I've just completed a trip on QF Transpacific (Oct-Nov) and took the A380 over and B747 back home.

A380
  • Unmatched for personal space and hard product.
  • Crew were available and attentive at all times, but not nearly as refined to how dining services are properly done (one didn't know red from white wine names)
  • IFE screen bigger, and had much better visibility, quantity of selections a bit more than on 747, not to mention the "tail cam" and various modes of maps on 380.
  • Crew seems to be more apt to check in with you during non-meal times and will make up your bed when you use the bathroom without request.
  • Quiet and smooth ride without question.
  • Any time a light or IFE is turned on in your suite, it seems to light up the whole cabin.
  • "Boxy" controller unit is bulky and cumbersome to use just to adjust seat and or lights, it seems rather awkward overall.
  • Air vents are more style than functional;hard to control airflow.

    B747
  • Hard product provides much less privacy and though it is a bit worn/tired looking (scratches, scuffs everywhere) at least there is no duct tape or glue showing.
  • Crew know their stuff about pairing wine and spot on service at service time, but are invisible for the hours between meals. Enthusiastic "Spirit of Australia" service provided when it is done.
  • IFE screen weak in that there is so much reflection and darkness it's hard to see until the cabin lights dimmed and shades lowered.
  • Crew do not make up your bed unless you ask.
  • Bed is quite smaller, more narrow and quite flat. It seems to sit up high and going from seat to bed mode seemed difficult to do on my own.
  • IFE system crashed mid-flight and some features didn't work for the rest of the flight afterwards. Overall lower quality system than 380.
  • Not much space for personal items other than ottoman and overhead bin.

    BOTH
  • Same-style menu, wine, crockery, stemware, and cutlery (including deplorable plastic knives) style leaves alot to be desired, as it reminded me of what we used to use on camping trips.
  • Same amenities w/ PJs provided
  • CSD Introduced themselves to pax but not sure where they were or what they did during the flights
