But... you could buy a "pass" and have your per diem costs decrease - a perk, nonetheless.

I bought three coffees at Tim’s every day = 600+ a year and never even once got a free coffee or donut – except when I had a winning roll up the rim cup.
Maybe it's time to visit some independents? I get a free coffee thrown in everyone once in a while and they often give me "2fer" coupons for myself and my office buddies. You probably shouldn't drink Tim's anyways, nasty stuff.

I had five shirts a week laundered at the dry cleaning plus my suits, pants etc and never once received a frequent launderer discount.
Don't know about you, but my dry-cleaning place often gives me discounts.

I was fortunate enough to be able to use my personal CIBC Visa card for work purchases. I must have spent lots as I accumulated over 1,000,000 AP points over the years but again no other benefits from Visa such as waving the $120 annual fee.
You seriously didn't try hard enough on this one. I used it ONCE for the year and they offered to reduce the yearly fee to $40 or give me a whack of points.

My point is, given competition, everyone has to compete for the consumer's dollar - even if they are commodities.

Arguably, there is less competition in the Canadian airspace than back in 1991. Nonetheless, without a J product and no Aeroplan, I would wager they would see their biz revenue fall - the proverbial "bread and butter". Ergo, AC has to differentiate itself. Given they've spent millions on AP and it's a revenue generating spin-off, it would be suicide to axe it.
