Service Charge On Rewards
I just returned from Japan and used a coupon for 5 nights to stay at the Ginza Tobu Renaissance. Upon checkout we were billed a "Service Charge" of 10% of our bill and government tax of 5% on the "Service Charge".
We had stayed at another Marriott using an award in Japan and were not charged a "Service Charge".
When I asked why I was charged this fee, the hotel clerk said it was the hotel's policy.
I've used the Rewards Certificates in the past and never had to pay a "Service Charge". I wondered if I needed to change my expectations of Marriott Rewards Awards. When I searched on "Service Charge" in this data base, I found another person had been charged a similar fee, but upon conplaining in writing, was issued a refund in Japanese Yen.
Have others of you had similar charges?
