I cannot tell if you were aware from your post, but you might be confusing "EQPs" with "EQMs". You are most certainly correct that EQPS on "deep discount coach" accrue at 0.5X per mile flown (subject to potentially applicable minimums which are beyond the scope hereof) on AA operated and marketed flights. You are also correct that "challenges" are based on attaining "EQPs" in a given time frame. What is not correct, however, is that you ever earn anything less than 1.0x EQM for any BIS mile (subject to potentially applicable minimums which are beyond the scope hereof) on AA marked and operated flights. Accordingly, all mileage earning, purchasable, non-opaque fares (including "O") earn EQMs at 1x per BIS flown on AA operated and marketed flights.
For folks not familiar with the "ins and outs" of AAdvantage, this can be confusing I know.
