Ah yes Royal Hawaiian Air Service
I commuted frequently with RHAS in the 70's and 80's. 'Missed the passing of and last flight to the Ka'anapali airstrip. The Marriot Time Share that sits there now is now a customer of mine and I reminisce, when on property, the times spent in the Windsock Lounge. In my naive early 20's, my first visit went like this:
Flying out of Ka’anapali, I always wondered about the bar above that ‘airport’ waiting area. While waiting for one morning flight I braved a trip up the stairs to the Windsock Lounge and pulled up a stool. I was the only patron. Menu said that I had to try they’re famous Bloody Mary. What the hell, I didn’t get back to work on Oahu for a few hours. Got my drink and just as I put the glass to my lips, there was a groan and an arm fell, dangling, right in front of my face. I jumped 12’ off that stool and looked towards the ceiling. There was a body in a fishnet hammock suspended above the bar. I was sitting right under High School Harry’s bed. I stapled my business card to the wall and stored the incident away for life's memories. When the humble Backie purchased and added the Windsock to his popular Boatyard Bar in Lahaina, I searched for that card on the preserved walls. Nope! never found it... but so many familiar cards, I did.
