I agree with everything you wrote... point of my post was a counterpoint to the comments that one should challenge the FA's authority to tell you to move. I'm suggesting that one think about it for a few minutes if it is REALLY worth it in whatever particular situation. In situations like this, you can always write to AA after the fact about the incident versus having a confrontation with someone who: 1) can have you removed from the flight, 2) is feeding/providing beverages to you, or 3) has the potential for making the next few hours miserable. In both the OP's and the other one w/r/t the O2 masks, barring other factors, I'd have done as told and written AA later realizing that the fight was either not worth having at the time and/or I was ultimately going to lose the fight regardless of being right.

emma, usually not worth fighting these small things, if for no other reason that it's just not worth the aggravation.
At the time (as I think is clear from my OP) I didn't even plan on making an official complaint but happy to have filed one now since, as all the AA experts here believe, this could have a positive impact.
