I think the OP was lucky that the fly was dead! Imagine if it was merely "stuck" in the salad dressing but craftfully managed to dislodge himself just as the second forkfull was nearing the open mouth, (certain death!).

Using all his might, wings at near Concord speed, he escapes, only to find himself in a hairy nostril. That I would find distressful.

I say that insects shouldn't be allowed beyond WT+.
