I agree with this wholeheartedly -- in the same way that joining the Holiday Inn and Inter-Continental products cheapens the image of Inter-Continental (in my opinion.)
I think it would be reasonable for there to be two freestanding programs (in which you could redeem points for the other "Marriott family" product), but joining the hotel chains in the same program would be a big mistake.
