and I prefer going through EWR on CO. The reason? Connecting through FRA was a nightmare, due to bad weather, and the transfers between terminals via buses, and out to the tarmac, which took a lot of time. I had an hour and 45 min to transfer, and made it to the gate in FRA just as they were about to close the jetway door..

CO through Newark was easier, even though I had to go through customs, recheck bags, security, etc. I had the same amount of connection time, 1 hr 45 minutes, and had 15 minutes to spare. But, there was no weather related issues..
