FlyAAlot,
From what I know, there are 3 different GOOD scenarios on what to do with your Marriott points:
1. "Miles Only Scenario" Do a direct conversion of Marriott points to AA miles. Assuming you have 500K MR points, you can use four #566 awards (at 125K points/award). Each of these awards yield 50K AA miles for a total of 200K AA miles. In my mind, this is the least desireable of the scenarios.
2. "Miles and Hotel Nights Scenario" Use your 500+K MR points to purchase two
Travel Packages. For use with AA (270K point level), each package yields 120K AA miles plus 7 nights at ANY Marriott property worldwide (plus a Hertz discount & an ATT phone card). The total yield for two of these awards is 240K AA miles and 14 nights at any Marriott worldwide including all their premium properties. Overall, this is probably the best choice for most people.
3. "Hotel Only Scenario" As in #2, use your points for two travel packages that each yield 7 nights in any Marriott plus 120K airline miles. Only this time, send the miles to Delta. From Delta, convert the miles to HHonors Points of a rate of 1 mile = 2 points. You will end up with 240K HHonors points. These 240K points can be use for with 2 GLON awards (6 free nights for category 6 and below) or almost enough for one GLON and one GLONP award (6 free nights at ANY HH property). Thus, the final yield for your 500K MR points in this scenario is 14 nights at any Marriott plus 12 nights at almost any HHonor property. This scenario is not really what you want you wanted to do, but is intersting none the less.
