Just to be clear, Washington has two Renaissance hotels: (1) 999 Ninth St., N.W., and (2) the Mayflower on Connecticut Ave. I assume that you are referring to (1). Interestingly, I was there, too, for part of your stay: August 9-11. I was in Room 1090, in the Club Tower.

I stay at this hotel from time to time and, while it is not my favorite Marriott-family hotel in DC, I've never had a bad experience. I would regard what happened to you as an aberration -- not what to expect.
