Not a viable financial option for the airline industry. If a one hour delay throws a wrench in your schedule, you're scheduling things too closely together.
I'm going to try to re-frame this as the length of the delay (let's say after 15 mins) is
irrelevant. But, to put it in perspective, 1 hour on a 5 hr and 27 min flight is significant
Should a delay of 18% not be compensated for, if not profusely apologized for, when it was due to negligence on the carrier's part? Think about it in terms of any other service industry where they promise "x" for paying "y". Yet the end result is a delay of service of 18%. i.e.: Your renovations will be finished in 60 days - actual time = 71 days. Would you be satisfied? Or, the cost for your renovations will be $1000 - actual cost = $1180....
Somehow, I don't think those of you who feel this delay is not important would be so forgiving in another industry. Again, I would point out that this delay was apparently due to
negligence.
