Great post. Can you now answer the one and only really important question. How much upgrade availability is there for DL, UA, and AA on international flights. Without this information, the other information is completely useless.
For reference, in the last year I flew NWA I was not able to get a single transpac upgrade on any of the 20 some flights I took despite having accrued 4MM miles on NWA metal and having been Plat for 20 years in a row. At one point, I got an agent to check every DTW NRT flight for 6 months out and there wasn't a single UG seat available. It will be interesting to see if DL is any different. I doubt it. This is response I got when I asked Jeff Robertson the question.
"The forward cabin on our flights between the United States and Japan oftentimes average a passenger load of 100% in paid tickets. With that said, it is no secret that the number of seats offered for mileage upgrades can be extremely limited on the flights to Asia. Understandably, we must maintain some consistency in allocating seats in the forward cabin due to their high value."
