Thinking about the Marriott Resort in Ireland?
Then you should wait about a year to go. Just stayed there Friday night at the end of a two week jag through UK & Ireland, used points for a room (it's a Cat 5).
Beautiful property, no question, but definitely a typical Marriott resort; miles from anywhere, designed for conferences, and spread out over several acres! As a MP Plat, I was upgraded to a Golf Course View room. Mine was the only room to have grass in front of the windows. Everyone else was looking at straw.
The nearby town, Newtownmount Kennedy, about 10km north of Wicklow Town, is a blink-and-you-miss it town. When I say nearby, I mean 10 minute drive. Two pubs, both of which stop serving food at 6pm. Very nice folks, made a toasted cheese sandwich when I said I was hungry, but definitely a small farm town type pub.
If you don't want to eat at the hotel, you are looking at a 20 minute drive to a good restaurant.
Staff was nice, but poorly organized. This can certainly be excused for a new property, but I hope it improves.
Overall, nice place for a business meeting or a golf outing, but for a feel of traditional Ireland, this ain't it. Hopefully Marriott will purchase something in Dublin soon.
Cheers for now...beerflyer
