Family plan is not a family account. Each member of the family still has his/her own account number. The redeemable miles are pooled while the status miles are separate. i.e. you cannot pool status miles to gain status. Some posters mentioned OZ and KE; I can add BA and most middle eastern airlines. LH also allows family plan for accounts registered in middle east. Since CO is in Star Alliance now, OZ will be your choice. LH works if you have friends in middle east who you can use to receive mails.
