I stay at this property for a week every January. It is located adjacent to the Riessersee (a beautiful lake surrounded by hiking trails) and overlooks the villages of Garmisch and Partenkirchen. If you like to walk, it is about a 20 minute walk to the village and 30 minutes to the train station. The hotel has an excellent restaurant that features a great Bavarian breakfast buffet that generally is included in your hotel rate. Spa facilities includes an indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, solarium, handball court, and mixed sauna (au natural). Garmisch is located only about about 25 minutes or so from the Austrian border at Mittenwald and is only an hour or so from Innsbruck. If you forgo the rental car you can buy daily or weekly bus passes from the driver that gives you unlimited transportation throughout Bavaria. You can get there by train from the Munich Airport for about $30.

The room are quite spacious with the living area downstairs and the bedroom upstairs in a loft. As far as I know, there is only one bed arrangement -- a double bed with two mattresses -- leaving a gap in the middle. No such thing as a queen or king.

For the price, this is one of the better values I've ever experienced in the Marriott hotel family. As a resort, it does not have a concierge lounge. I do receive a platinum gift, however, that includes fresh fruit and a beverage -- sometimes wine and other times bottled carbonated water and/or mineral water.

There is a large American presence in Garmisch as there is a small army garrison there. The US Army Recreation Facility is also located there and presently includes two hotels. By showing your US passport you can eat in their restaurants but I wouldn't recommend it. Local restaurants are much better, of which there are many.

One web site I know about is www.gapinfo.de and includes some webcam shots as well as some information in English.

Hope this helps.
