It was probably something to do with the atmosphere in the aircraft..problems with pressurization or recirculation. Some people are sensitive and if it was pressurized to a higher altitude than indicated, or too rapidly, then people could faint, especially if they are not breathing properly (like talking or laughing). I fainted once going up Titlis in the alps, right in the cable car.
