Another point is this: How distant is your family connection to Britain or Ireland, assuming you have such a connection. For example, you can automatically qualify for Irish citizenship with just one Irish grandparent (and of course the same applies for your wife, if you are married). I believe British citizenship can be obtained with one parent British. i.e. do you need a visa at all - can you qualify as a citizen?
