I recently stayed at the Downtown Marriott and found it quite pleasant. I had a beautiful view of the City Hall and it reminded me of the old Dragnet televison show (or was it Perry Mason?). In any event, you must go to dinner or breakfast or lunch at the Original Pantry on Figueroa, about a 15 minute walk from the hotel (they do have a parking lot). It's an old time diner-type restaurant that's open 24 hours ('never closed, never without a line') and the food is hearty, good, and cheap. It's very Raymond Chandler. A remaining slice of bygone LA that (sadly) has vanished (Bullock's Wilshire, the Brown Derby, Ambassador Hotel, etc).
Enjoy!
