Even today, their 763s and 75Ls really need PTVs and AVOD. I was recently on an FRA-ORD flight and several German sitting near me couldn't s believe AA didn't have PTVs in Y on the flight.
Getting off topic, but I disagree, at least for myself. AA has laptop power available at many seats in coach on every mainline aircraft, whereas I don't think any of the other US airlines have power in any coach seats on most domestic and even international planes. The power is a significant plus, and in flight video is a neutral to negative factor for me. I prefer my own IFE to whatever the airlines offer anyway, and I find the flashing screens all over the cabin distracting; they make it hard to sleep or read.

United's channel 9, however, is nearly worth flying them!
