Was there in 5/01. Cairo Marriott is a huge, sprawling complex of 2 former gov't buildings or palaces or something like that. It is a city unto itself. Several restaraunts, bars, etc. My favorite was the fish market restaraunt across the street on the water. They have a J.W.'s Steakhouse and a darn good wine list by Egyptian standards. Huge outside areas for dining, drinking. Many shops and services are inside the property and the outdoor recreation opportunites are excellent. Also has a decent casino.
Staff is excellent. Hotel is beautiful. You can lose sight of the fact you are in Cairo at times inside the hotel. Then something will happen that clearly reminds you where you are.
We enjoyed it immensely and sometimes, after being in the heat, filth and sheer humanity that is Cairo, it was a sight for sore eyes at the end of the day. I would recommend it.
