Can you please confirm this? I also received a Marriott VISA in December, but I don't recall that it made me gold through 2003. (I know in the past that the Mar VISA was supposed to be an equivalent of Silver level...)</font>
I got an offer in the mail to get the Marriott Visa in about mid-November. The promotion was Gold status for new credit card holders. I'd never seen Gold offered before, so I jumped on it. I would never ordinarily do enough hotel nights to make the status the "hard" way. Sure enough, I showed up as Gold in the system about the same time I got the credit card, with the Gold membership card showing up a couple of weeks later.
My first-purchase bonus post was 5,000 points - not the 10,000 that I've seen with other promotions. I have 2 weeks of vacation stays planned and we're planning one large dinner party at a Marriott in 2002, so I figured the Gold status would be better to have than more bonus points.
