stimpy, we've known people who got renewed at their "usual" level with many fewer nights than the stated requirement. But they had been long-term Marriott elites before retiring (in one case; changing jobs in another). I don't know if Marriott has a formula for this. In neither case did the folks we know call or otherwise ask to be carried - it just happened. But I don't see how it can hurt to ask, as long as you know they may say, Sorry. But you have through March to make (double) nights toward status for '02.
