In some ways, I agree with wideman. I stayed at the Marriott last spring for a week on an award. It's a very nice hotel with excellent service. The location is fine in regards to visiting attractions (It's on the #1 Metro line which is a big help). However, the neighborhood is very commercial and has no 'atmosphere' The sidewalks on the Champs can be jammed with people at times. The nearby restaurants are either very touristy (low value or places like Planet Hollywood) or top end and very expensive. If I were to return to Paris, my first preference would be in the rue Cler area, second the Marais or possibly Opera-Madeline.
