Even if you're on the verge of bankruptcy this approach is madness. If you have silver and gold card holders who are still travelling when things get really rough you do everything you can to hold on to them. You don't try to squeeze more out of them. This is what I call the 'spreadsheet mentality'. The people running things start seeing columns of numbers and forget what their business is. If BA weather the storm they're not even going to know why their 'loyal' customers have gone elsewhere.
