Your upgrade chances will increase if you split the reservation. If you are on the same PNR- your wife will only get upgraded as if she were Silver.

Also- as a point of clarification, I think Reserve Status only helps if you are a Reserve card holder, not necessarily if your ticket was purchased by someone elses Reserve card.
