So in addition to having to pay ridiculously high fees for tickets originating in Europe, this 24-hr cancellation option is not available.
I usually don't originate in Europe, but an urgent matter has come up that sends me back to the US within the middle of a US-Europe-US itinerary and rather than change my return, I am just buying a Europe-US-Europe ticket.
Not too happy about this policy. Why the discrimination against European originating tickets?
Not only that, it also doesn't apply to some (most?) flights originating in the US. I was told by an agent that "yes, while on our site it says it applies to flights originating in the US, it does not apply to all US originating flights and my system is showing it is not available on your flights" (that some 15 minutes after making the booking online), and even the "supervisor" couldn't override that -- as apparently the system is "locked" and does not allow even with an override to cancel or change the flight, even US origin, even within less than half an hour of booking online. So it's only available on
some, not all, US originating flights. So for all intents and purposes, unlike NWA Customers First, Delta has
no such policy to allow to change or cancel flights penalty-free within 24 hours of booking.
Solution (while it's still around): always use
www.nwa.com for any and all bookings, where there is an actual CustomersFirst policy in place, and unlike with Delta where you can't do anything yourself online and need to call for everything, with NWA you can cancel any flight by midnight next day after booking online yourself quickly and easily.
