Hotel lighting
It is the very rare hotel and brand that has highly adequate task/let alone ambience lighting thoughtfully laid out in the room design.
Great lighting can assist with superior productivity and enjoyment of ones stay.
If hotel companies believed it would make a difference in property and or brand loyalty they would pay attention. They believe millions of dollars is better spent on pumping scents/fumes in lobbies and public areas amongst some other tossed out strokes of genious

I can think of one property in particular that always makes me want to return. The lighting is fantastic (halogen and on dimmers) in both the guest room, bathroom and living room
Good sound in the bathroom and spectacular water pressure in the shower rounds out the experience
Its not that the hotel is fantastic its that the experience is so much better in the room.I tend to book more nights in such hotels because I can work and enjoy the entire experience better
Hotel companies are busy installing green eco friendly policies to the max as long as they can save money. While cost effective is always a good thing it isn't when it is at the expense of customer satisfaction.
Many guests unlike our original poster don't think about the details of the experience and just rely on positive or negative feelings about a property overall
If more guests were aware of their surroundings and complained there might be a change.Typically within reason I will always spend more if the overall consistent experience warrants it
