On my 24 Oct ICN - NRT, NRT - ORD flights, my SWU from D class to FC cleared night prior on ICN - NRT leg, and two hours before pushback on NRT - ORD leg. Tickets purchased ten days prior to start of travel.

Not much you can do about it, I think. United just trying to make some money. Good news in all this is that United seems to keep good track of where folks are on the upgrade waitlist.
