I just created an account on Share.com. You need to wait 2days for an activation code in the post, but i just called them up once it was created and placed money in the account using my debit card, plus enough to get the certificate. Shares will be logged tomorrow, I then need to write and get them to send it out in a certficate form to me. Hopefully it will all be done in time, either way, I have now bought the shares in my name and they made it really really simple for me. Cost £7 fee to do it, total cost was £412
One thing that isnt really clear is if you need to register for electronic messaging by 6th November or 1st January 2010. From what I have read, you need to have bought the shares in your own name (eg a certificate) by the 6th November, and then register for electronic messaging by 1st Jan to get the discount code.
Nice one - I'd missed the subtlety in the original post above that if the shares are held in a nominee account then the holder (share.com in my case) has to provide your email address to BA. I've just dropped them a note to find out if they do this automatically or whether they need to be prompted after Nov 6th. Will report back....
